Katedrála sv. Víta (St. Vitus Cathedral) The Gothic cathedral, the spiritual symbol of the Czech state was founded in the year 1344 by Jan Lucemburský (John of Luxembourg) and his sons Karel (Charles) and Jan Jindřich (John Henry) in the place of the original Romanesque rotunda. The construction proceeded according to the plans of Matthias of Arras (until 1352), then Peter Parler (1356 - 1399). The construction period protracted to nearly 600 years and it was finally completed 1929. Decorated by precious works of art it encloses St. Wenceslas' chapel and the crypt with tombs of Bohemian kings. The coronation jewels are deposited here, too.

Katedrála sv. Víta (St.-Veits-Dom) Der gotische Dom, der geistige Symbol des tschechischen Staates, wurde im Jahre 1344 anstelle der ursprünglichen romanischen Rotunde von Johann von Luxemburg und seinen Söhnen Karl und Jan Jindřich (Johann Heinrich) gegründet. Er wurde nach Entwürfen von Matthias von Arras (bis 1352), später von Peter Parler (1356 - 1399) errichtet. Der Dom wurde fast 600 Jahre lang gebaut und endgültig erst im Jahre 1929 fertiggestellt. Ausser der wertvollen künstlerischen Ausstattung, der St.-Wenzels-Kapelle und der Gruft der böhmischen Könige im Souterrain der Kirche befinden sich hier auch die Krönungskleinodien.
